Job Description - Captain, Cruise, Water Transport Vessel
- Needs a 100 ton Masters License with 25 ton endorsement for Whittier Express and 50 ton endorsement for the Qayaq Spirit and Qayaq Chief; First aid, CPR cards, Radio-telephone permit, current drivers license.
- MUST BE IN A RANDOM USCG DRUG PROGRAM.
- Commands cruise, water transport vessel that engages in sightseeing cruises, water transport for hunter, campers and kayakers, and transports light cargo
- Acts as captain and deckhand, runs vessel alone.
- Must be able to safely to do beach landings with the vessel always protecting the passengers and engines.
- Gives instructions to crew (when aboard vessel) and is responsible for the safety talk to all passengers before trip departs.
- Plots courses on navigation charts and computes positions, using standard navigation aid such as compass, clock, radio fix, navigation tables and tide tables.
- Steers vessel and operates electronic equipment such as radio, depth finder, and radar.
- Records daily activities in the vessels log.
- Daily records engine start and finish hours for all engines.
- Is responsible for all care, cleaning, and maintenance of vessel, equipment and engines.
- Responsible for safe fueling of vessel following all U.S.C.G. regulations every day so vessel is full come beginning of next day.
- Maintains a fuel log of fuel consumed and hours run to determine G.P.H.
- Handles lines for docking and mooring vessel or tie up vessel to other vessel.
- Keeps lines in good condition.
- Cleans vessel with brooms, brush, sponges, rags; superstructure with brush, sponges and water hose.
- Loads and unloads passengers gear up to 150 lbs per piece.
- Loads kayaks up to 100 lbs each on top of superstructure and ties them down as not to come loose during transport in any sea conditions.
- Unloads kayaks at the beach for passengers.
- Never lets a passenger on top of the superstructure where the kayaks lay.
- Make sure passengers board vessel safely at the dock and off the beach and de-board safely at the dock and at the beach landing.
- Makes sure vessel is never overloaded with more passengers than vessel is qualified for.
- Must be able run the vessel at correct speeds in all weather conditions to provide the passenger with the smoothest ride possible.
- Other duties as assigned.
